ZETA BETA TAU

Gamma Tau Chapter

THE HISTORY OF ZBT

THEN...

On December 29, 1989 in New York City, an organization was born on the ideals of intellectual awareness, social responsibility, integrity, and brotherly love. This organization was Zeta Beta Tau. Zeta Beta Tau, or ZBT, was founded during a time filled with anti-Semitism and it gave Jewish college men an opportunity to join a Fraternity. Building on this opportunity, ZBT was founded as the first Jewish fraternity. From 1898 to 1954, ZBT was a primarily Jewish fraternity, until the 1954 National Convention where it was decided that the Fraternity would become non-sectarian and not limit their membership to Jewish people only. ZBT made headlines in 1989 by being the first Fraternity to stand up against hazing by making the Fraternity a non-pledging Fraternity.

NOW...

On February 7th, 2013, 17 men with 1 common goal founded the Gamma Tau Chapter of the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity at Arizona State University. These 17 men came from many different cities, backgrounds, and cultures and bonded together to provide Arizona State University’s greek life with a fraternal experience that went against the norm. A fraternity that put brotherhood first. This difference resounded with many young men at Arizona State University; during this past three years, the Gamma Tau Chapter has accomplished so many of their goals and is continuing to build a fraternal experience that is defined primarily by the bonds shared between the brothers.

Zeta Beta Tau, Gamma Tau is a Fraternity that defies what is traditional about a Fraternity. It is a Fraternity that has a bright future. It is also a Fraternity with a rich history awaiting to be written. The Founding Fathers set the bar high and are now passing the torch on to the very men they recruited. It is an exciting time to be a part of the Gamma Tau Chapter and it’s great to be a Zebe.
